THE TOWNHOUSE
The Townhouse at 6 East 80th Street is a jewel of Manhattan’s Upper East Side, steeped in history and refined elegance. Originally commissioned by “dime store magnate” F.W. Woolworth as a gift for his youngest daughter, Jessie Woolworth Donohue, the house was designed by the renowned architect Charles Pierrepont Henry Gilbert. Part of a trio of townhomes at 2, 4, and 6 East 80th Street, the townhouse reflects the opulence and craftsmanship of the early 20th century.
Acquired by Frederick R. Koch in 1986, the property underwent a meticulous restoration led by architect Charles T. Young. Limestone from Caen and elements believed to have originated at the Petit Trianon add a distinctive European charm to the home, while the interior showcases Mr. Koch’s extraordinary collection of fine and decorative arts. Following his passing in 2020, the townhouse and its treasures were bequeathed to the FRK Foundation, preserving its legacy as a sanctuary of culture, art, and history.
